| Welcome to Emmet County

Emmet County is located along the shores of Lake Michigan at the Northern tip of the Lower Peninsula. US-31, US-131 and I-75 provide easy access to the area.
Communities in the county include Petoskey, the county seat, Alanson , Harbor Springs , and Pellston. The Waugoshance island group is also part of Emmet County.
First settled in 1865 as Porter's Village, Petoskey developed as the railroad expanded into the area and became incorporated in 1879. Built on the hillsides of Lake Michigan and Little Traverse Bay, Petoskey provides great the views, access to water sports and quiet strolls through the city parks. Bay Harbor, a new resort community, is located just south of the city.

Alanson - formally Littlefield Township, was first settle in 1875 and received its name from the Grand Rapids & Indiana Railroad official Alanson Cook was incorporated as a village in 1905.
Harbor Springs - downtown area is a favorite of shoppers and is a short walk from the city marina for those traveling Lake Michigan by water.

The Village of Pellston, named after William H. Pells, was incorporated in 1907 and is home to Pellston Regional Airport with daily flights to major airports.
Wilderness State Park is a nature lover's paradise, offering 26 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline, 16 miles of hiking trails and nine rustic cabins, some of which are located on the Lake Michigan shoreline.
